i had mercury poisoning a while back from eating tuna fish 5-10 times a week (i had no idea it was bad for you- i thought like broccolli or apples- you could never eat enough of it) and i had all the horrible symptoms- paresthesia of the hands and feet, hair falling out, chronic fatigue, IBS, depression, no menstrual cycle, etc... when i realized it was from the fish i stopped eating it immediately and soon thereafter my symptoms subsided. the IBS is still there somewhat but not like it used to be- and my period took about 6 months to come back. but i never chelated or detoxed- thinking that it would just naturally go out of my body. now- over 2 years later- i am starting to take enzymatic therapy's metal magnet. a few days after i started it i got the worst yeast infection ever! i went to my doctor and she said it was candida. i am now taking yeast defense- an herbal remedy that helps fight it. but the other day i took 2 metal magnets by mistake and the yeast infection came back. so i am taking yeast defense again (you only take it when you have a yeast infection). i guess my question is- is this normal? do you get more yeast infections as you detox??? and does anyone have floaters in their eyes? that is the reason i even got into detoxing to begin with. i have these wormy looking things that float in my vision and they are really annoying. i never had them before i had mercury poisoning i am hoping to get rid of them. any advice would be much appreciated. if you have experience with any of this- mercury poisoning, from fish or otherwise, candida, detox, whatever! i would love to hear from you. thanks... hvnlystarz@gmail.com

My Theory about your reccuring yeast infections... I would imagine that the metal magnet is chelating and therefore mobilizing mercury. This mobilized mercury is getting pulled (chelated) into the colon and then is getting reabsorbed when the metal-magnet bonds break. If I were you, I'd do this: Stop the metal magnet, start Algin. Take 3 tablets 3 times daily between meals. After a couple weeks, if you want to begin detoxing (assuming you have no amalgam fillings and no tattoos), take small doses of the metal magnet perhaps every couple days and see how you feel. Take them 1 hour before or after you take the Algin so their action is not hindered by the Algin. The metal magnet will mobilize mercury and the Algin will be in your colon to absorb the mercury and prevent it from reabsorbing into the body. I also always recommend taking Vitamin C (3000 to 8000 mg /day) and Vitamin E with Selenium (about 400 iu /day) when you are detoxing to help prevent mercury-induced oxidative damage. About floaters...When my amalgams were still in, floaters and very itchy eyes were two of the most annoying problems I had. Here are some info sheets on the supplements I recommended above; These are what I take: Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids Vitamin E with SeleniumHope this helps

Harmony: Read Laura's response to Dawns post Blurred Vision 5/16. I started taking a product called "Eyebright" (has most of the same ingredients) just a few days ago, and it seems like it is helping with the floaters already!

I've had floaters for years. I remember mentioning them to a teacher once, that I had these "things" in front of my eyes. I have singular cell ones and long sausage ones that float over my vision in bright light. They are worse some days than others.
Other visual disturbances I've had are gold like worms in front of my eyes, black swirls in very bright light, and rainbow flashes with migraine.
I also have menstruation problems. Haven't had a period since summer 2004. Don't know if I wil get one again naturally, just have to wait and see. My doctor advises progesterone pills, which I might have to take if I don't get one soon as I run risk of uterine cancer and so forth.
I've heard about fish here being very polluted, there was a protest in town not too long ago. I got better when I stopped eating fish. I think tuna, amalgams and vaccines was too much for my body as a child, hence why I got sick by 12.
I have yeast infections aswell, got treatment for thrush at 17, in the form of a pill from the doctor. It's come and gone since, but not as bad as then.
Also I have had some hair loss and thinning, which I noticed mainly in 2000 - 2 years after I had amalgam root canal. Most of my hormonal symptoms got worse after that, and lately other symptoms aswell, but are somewhat better after I had that tooth out.
Hope you continue to get improvement!

hey harmony, my mercury poisoning came from eating tuna fish as well. It was a part of my weight lifting diet, 1-2 cans a day for a year straight, then my symptoms came to the surface. mine was mostly mental symtoms, poor coordination, serious brain fog. after having these symptoms for a year, I developed IBS / Ulcerative colitis. I used to lose lots of blood in the early days, but it has lessened with time. I have done a few heavy metal cleanses, but symptoms are somewhat still there.
I am beggining to suspect candida very highly. Since I have extreme gasses and bloating. Candida can also cause mental depression, brain fog, and IBS. - Mike

thank you everyone for your comments and advice! why would you recommend i stop the metal magnet? i feel like it's working! isn't flushing out of my system through my digestive and reproductive areas? i am taking yeast defense which is a combo of garlic, pau d'arco, grapefruit seed extract, caprylic acid, chlorophyll and lactobascillus. i also take lactobascillius separately. i am not quite sure why i should stop the metal magnet. it's essentially humic, fulvic and pheonlic acids which come from a hungarian peat depoist. here's the link... http://www.enzy.com/products/display.asp?id=1403&cpmid=1332i will look into the algin and the eye stuff you recommended as well- but i am confused as to why i should stop what i am currently doing. thanks again for the help! i appreciate it

Sorry. I assumed that metal magnet was a chelator based on what I heard about it. Now that I have a link to it, I can see that it's not so it would seem fine to continue it.
Generally, if you take chelators and symptoms increase too much, discontinuing the chelator is a good idea.
Thanks.

Apart from having 6 metal fillings in my mouth, last year i was eating loads of fish thinking i was doing the right thing. Also when i got really sick last year, i noticed i had really bad eye floaters all of a sudden, they came on the same time as when i became bedbound, also i noticed my vision went grey or dim looking, that really scared me, i thought i was going blind. I had loads of tests done on my eyes but they all came out okay, i even had a brain scan, that was okay. I wore glasses for months after that, but since getting my fillings done my vision is back to normal, although last week i was complaining that i was going blurred, it turned out to be the sleeping pill i was taking. Dawn.

I've had glasses since I was 13. I can't remember my exact prescription -3.75 or something like that. The lenses are pretty thick, even on small frames. I'm not comfortable trying contact lenses because I have an eye inflammation problem that I had to have medication for and could return any time, so I put up with the glasses. Thankfully they are fairly fashionable these days, lol, unlike in the past.
Incidentally, my prescription has changed very little from when I was about 18-20: about the same time my other problems improved aswell. I wouldn't be surprised if my vision is related to mercury toxicity.

Hi Demi, i have whats known as an astigmatism in both eyes, i think its where the eye is more oval shaped than round, and some people with this do go blurred from time to time, i do sometimes, also before i had my fillings removed my eyes would always feel uncomfortable, like i couldn,t open them properly and they were really sensetive, i used to hate going in Tescos because of their lights, i had to get out quick. I used all sorts of eye drops and gels but it didn,t do much good. I only had eye problems then and now its been swapped with ear and head probs, 2 years ago it was throat probs with terrible rinitus, i was allergic to cigarette smoke, beer, wine, glue, paint, nailvarnish etc, i was so bad that i spent days in bed unable to move sometimes. That cleared up after a while, i had loads of biopsies on my throat and in the end they found infected lymph tissue and removed it, since then my throat and rinitus hasn,t come back. I do sympathise with you regarding rinitus, its not pleasant.

In the context of discussions about eyes, you may be interested to know...
Mercury is known to change Intraocular Pressure, up for some, down for others which changes the shape of the eye. About 85% of people who have eye issues related to mercury become nearsighted, the other 15% become farsighted.

Good grief! I can't believe all the stuff that I'm learning here! This might explain why my eyesight has been funky.
Russ, I think you should write a book. Share your personal story in book form and then attach a humongous compendium that will represent all the mercury facts that are lodged in your brain. lol
And if you do decide to write and publish, may I extend an invitation for you and Laura to visit my neighborhood ladies book club? We'll read it as our book-of-the-month selection and have a fabulous Q&A!
I just can't believe all the information that is on this website. Amazing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually doing that with a twist:
I writing a book that explores not only all of the physical problems associated with mercury that I experienced, but I'm exploring—in detail—the behavioral issues it caused as well and how it altered the direction of my life, family, relationships and self-view in profound and life changing ways.
I other words, looking back, I can now see that mercury messed up every area of my life. I didn't see how until I had been mercury-free for several years and could clearly see my personality change, fears evaporate, and general ability to have relationships become perfectly healthy.
Until you've seen mercury as hindsight for several years, you may never know how profoundly it has influenced your life.
