Has anyone experienced any problems with the onset of diabetes after mercury removal. I ask because its about 4-5 weeks now since I had my fillings removed and twice now I have had really strange lightheaded moments which have lasted for several hours. I didn't really connect this to blood sugar before but on looking back it was when I ate a lot of fruit/fruit juice, sweet things, etc. I am now worried that on top of everything else I have now given myself diabetes when I had my fillings removed. I had myself checked out for diabetes about 6 months ago and the results were fine, ie. i did not have it. Has anyone else experienced this, I read on another site of someone who had never had diabetes before, but after getting his fillings removed had a hypoglycemic attack I am wondering if this is normal, will it subside or instead of improving my health have I now damaged it further. Obviously if I keep getting this I am going to have to go and get a blood test for this, I was having trouble breathing before and someone said it could be my thyroid that was affected when my fillings were removed ( I stupidly got them taken out with no protection - 5 over a 4 week period) could my thyroid be affecting the blood sugar thing? I am just hoping that I have not made matters worse by getting my fillings removed, and am now thinking I should have left well alone. Has anyone any tips on how to overcome this or how they dealt with it. thanks

Absolutely your thyroid could be affecting your blood sugar levels. If your thyroid is not working properly, your adrenals are having to compensate for what the thyroid cannot do. Mercury also affects the adrenals, causing a decrease in production of cortisol, which is responsible for, among other things, regulating blood sugar. Do you have a constant fluey feeling? This is low cortisol, and a sign your adrenals are underproducing. I am hypothyroid, hypoadrenal and have major problems controlling my blood sugar. It is unlikely that you have diabetes - it is probably hypoglycemia. You need to eat a high protein diet (protein with every meal) and low GI food every four hours to control blood sugar levels. Don't eat sugary things! - this will make it worse. You may also need adrenal support. Google on hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia to find other links, but on this forum all the people have problems with thyroid, adrenals and blood sugar, and you can learn a lot. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/Hypothyroidism, hypoadrenalism and hypoglycemia are the three main symptoms of amalgam illness, as identified by Dr Andy Cutler. This is what I have. I hate to say it, but you sound like you may have it too. I guess chelating is the only way out, but in the short term you can make symptoms better by supporting the thyroid and adrenals. Hope this helps. Nicola

thank you for your reply, I am feeling better reading the information you have given me.
Does this mean then that the "hypoglycemic" attacks should lessen if I follow the right diet etc and get adrenal support? Will things eventually sort themselves out, or do I have to always now worry about blood sugar etc?
Again thanks for all the info., everytime I read something positive about getting mercury fillings removed I also seem to read someting negative like that it can trigger cancer or diabetes or something (especially since I got them removed without any precautions ) and am left wondering if I have now opened myself up to more illness rather than less.
Will a healthy diet meantime remove a lot of the mercury that built up during my amalgam removal? I can't use much else just now because I still have mercury under one crown, and I want to leave that alone at the moment. If I just follow a healthy diet, and take say a multi-vitamin and exercise etc, will some of the mercury just be removed naturally? I am hoping this is the case. I was taking a multi-vitamin that was specifically to help the immune system, it is high in selenium, which I have read is good, but also high in vitamin B12, which I have read is bad!! Could I use kelp am thinking the iodine would be could for the thyroid - then again maybe not??? Think I should just stick to a everyday normal multi vitamin. Ahhhh all so confusing. Anyway thanks for the reply I will change my diet and see if things settle down.

It sounds like you may have given yourself some short to medium term health issues to address. This is why having your amalgams removed with proper precautions is sooo important. The starting point is to get your thyroid tested to find out whether you need to supplement thyroid hormone. Even if the results are in range you may need treatment. Post them on that forum and you will get a better view than what your doctor thinks. Most of us dealing with mercury toxicity gave up on doctors long ago. Most people with mercury issues have thyroid problems so it would be unusual if you didn't.
The hypoglycemia is ultimately controllable by diet, but if you still have problems with this, you may need to look at adrenal support like Isocort, hydrocortisone or adrenal glandulars. It rather depends on how things develop and how you feel . You may get away with just making dietary changes, or, if your body has taken a real hit from the mercury, you may need to help it out. Like I said, if you develop a chronic flu-like feeling, that is low cortisol and you will need to supplement, or chelate the mercury out until the thyroid recovers and/ or the adrenals can produce enough cortisol again. If I were you, I would be considering giving chelation a go, to get the mercury out of your body before it does more damage. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend you buy Amalgam Illness by Dr Andy Cutler, which explains everything that mercury does in your body and tells you what to do, and how to chelate with DMSA and alpha lipoic acid. You may find that because your illness is quite shortlived, you need only chelate for a short time. I know that for myself I will need to do the full 2-3 years. I just saw that you still have a filling under a crown. You shouldn't chelate with mercury still in your mouth. It would be worth getting this removed with proper precautions, and then starting chelation.
The Amalgam Illness book will also tell you what supplements to take to protect the body from mercury. A multi vit is not enough. Iodine for the thyroid is not straightforward - good in some cases, bad for Hashimotos. You need to find out what is going on and treat accordingly. The AI book is your best starting point.
