Anyone have any luck on getting their dental or health insurance to pay some of the cost of amalgam replacement, and if so, how?
Some say that if it is documented that you are "allergic" or sick by mercury or if the fillings are "worn, damaged" that insurance covers some of the cost. Hmmm?
Any insight is appreciated!

Hi MMM,

I don't know how it works in America, but I think it could "theoretically" be possible to get some treatment on an insurance/monthly plan here in the UK if the dentist put down that it was necessary restorative work i.e. filling was decayed and needed replacing. As far as I know it's not possible to get it for amalgam replacement otherwise.

I looked up a plan not so long ago, and it had certain conditions i.e. the patient wouldn't qualify if they knew of dental work needing done before they took out the coverr/plan. Also I think the patient had to be on it for a while before making a claim, or something like that.

I did some further research too. In the US depending on which plan you have....restorative work is covered for worn out fillings. Some plans only pay for amalgam though. So do cover composite. They will not cover it just because you requested to have them out, it is considered cosmetic. Here there is not waiting period to file a claim, but most insurances have a dollar amount per year they will pay. After that $1000 your on your own anyway. My insurance is run through the state..for poor people, and it covers somethings, problem is that you can't find any dentists willing to accept that insurance. The fees are lower than average. They cover what they think the service should cost, not how much the dentist feels like charging!
