I just had my last amalgams out on Dec. 19. The dentist followed the total protocol and I took activated charcoal pre-removal. I was looking into getting some algin, and even asked Laura about it, when I discovered, while reading the book "Evidence of Harm" about autism and mercury exposure, that the very things that my dentist recommended for me to take are things that are missing in the system of an autistic child - and these things help to chelate and absorb mercury. The pills are l-Methionine, N-Acetyl Cysteine, and l-glutathione. I take a bunch of vitamins that he recommended too, as well as flax oil, recommended by Russ. I have only felt mildly toxic occasionally, and I am getting some good results - ie: the other night, my vision was SO clear whereas before,it was like a gray cloud was hanging over it. And my double vision had, for a time, cleared up. Anyway, this may be a good protocol for some of you others out there. It seems like a very gentle detox compared to what I have been reading. Russ, Laura, I noticed that your Heavy Metal Detox has some of those ingredients in it. But it also has Alpha Lipoic Acid in it. Is this advisable for someone just starting out? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hi Dallas. Russ, Laura, I noticed that your Heavy Metal Detox has some of those ingredients in it. But it also has Alpha Lipoic Acid in it. Is this advisable for someone just starting out? That completely depends on the condition of the mercury toxic person. I normally don't recommend ALA unless someone's feeling fair. Most people aren't too strong after they've had their amalgams out for a little while and had time to do some gentle detox. Although sometimes, people get amalgams out before they go into stage 3 mercury poisoning and for them, I would have no problem recommending ALA so long as they were feeling fair or better. As a side note, I would also highly recommend taking extra Algin with the heavy metal detox to make sure and mop up mobilized mercury. I would also mention that with an autistic child it's different because they are not having 24/7 mercury exposure like people with amalgams are. N-AC raises gluththione which is the one of the body's primary natural heavy metal detox mechanisms. I think it's generally OK for a child without amalgams who just needs to detox vaccine-mercury (non-continuous exposure) to use it, but again, always with algin. Hope this helps.
