Sorry if there's a better place for this in the forum complex. I didn't see it.
Have a friend who's taken with these females - they can do no wrong in his eyes; so I've had to sit through their propaganda DVD a couple of times. What a joke!
They whine and whine that people don't have the right to boycott them. I'd really like to see that principle applied consistently by anyone who's ever made the claim. Disney comes to mind.
Now seriously, if I don't have the right to decline to buy what you're selling, neither do you have the right to refuse to buy what I bring to market. I want $50,000 per word for my prose. And the first people in line should be these liars.
Not only do they not have a lick of sense about rights; they contradict themselves time and again. First, the whole thing was about one sentence; then it was about politics; then the "rednecks" they so despise; etc. etc. etc. On and on. And the lead singer didn't just stop, either. She said more in interviews, and got into a running feud with Toby Keith.
I'm no fan of either George I or George II. That has about zero to do with my take on these phonies. Never did like them. They don't represent or love Dixie - or even have a clue about the South. They're all married, so they're certainly not the kind of chick a single man should properly be interested in, especially a man from Dixie. "Yankee skanks" would be a much more accurate name for the trio. Would a real chick representing Dixie go on Howard Stern and announce she wasn't wearing panties?
What this all boils down to - the real issue here is elitism. They really think their celebrity status entitles them to dictate how their fans think. That's the bottom line, and it comes out again and again in their interviews. Granted, it's different from the common idea of intellectual elitism; it's celebrity elitism. Even sillier.
The funniest part is how they put down the people they claim are supposed to be their customers. Didn't have a problem with "ignorant rednecks" until you can't have their money. Speaking of which, anyone who lived among real rednecks would have an understanding beyond simplistic stereotyping. Yes there are ignorant rednecks. There are ignorant city slickers. There are ignorant internationalists. There are also highly educated rednecks, which they'd know even if they weren't raised among them. All they'd have to do is pay attention to the people they met. But paying attention to peasants is beneath elites. Did I forget to mention there are ignorant elitists?
What's not so funny is the way the other 2 support the lead leftist. They can't formulate arguments at all - it's all just emotional loyalty to them.
There's also relativism involved: they understand at some level that their own position is weak, so they just assume their opposition is equally as weak and it boils down to which personality one likes. If people would learn to evaluate instead, it'd be better for America and the whole world. Obviously I have friends who disagree with me; yet we remain friends. Friendship - true friendship - does not consist of becoming an enabler when someone is dead wrong.

One would think so, but there were actually hearings in the U.S. Senate over the affair. John McCain, of all people, tried to make out that the radio stations didn't have the right not to play their songs (at least not as a group). I respect the man, but that's just nuts.
