Welcome!
Welcome to the Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) Forum.
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a salt of the amino acid Glutamic Acid (glutamate).
Although glutamate occurs naturally in some foods, excessive amounts of this substance can cause a myriad of diseases and common ailments. Even small amounts of MSG added to foods can be considered excessive by the human body.
Health Problems Associated with MSG
Nerve Cell Death and Brain Damage - Glutamate causes nerve cells to fire. Too much glutamate can kill nerve cells and has demonstrated brain damage, brain lesions, and neuroendocrine disorders in animals.
Obesity - MSG is used in animal research to make animals obese and is especially popular in rat studies.
Addiction - Making people incur an addition to a food is beneficial for the food manufacturer's profits but harmful is clearly harmful to humans.
Depression - It is generally recognized that MSG is associated with and can cause depression in some people.
Misc - The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recoginized that free glutamic acid is associated with stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS.
