Logging In

To log into the chat system, simply enter your name or a "handle" (something you'd like to be called) into the box labeled "Enter Your Name or Handle" and then click the button labeled "Chat Now".

You will in instantly logged into the chat system and will be ready to chat.

You can also enter a short description in the box labeled "Describe Yourself". If you do this, then people will be able to see this description if they single-click on your name on the right side of the chat window.

Sending Text (Chatting)

To send a line of text to all people logged into the chat window, just type your message in the bottom box and press "Enter" on your keyboard. The text will be instantly displayed to all users who are currently logged in to the chat system.

Your name or "handle" will appear next to the text so everyone knows who typed the text. In your own window, however, your name will not appear to the left of the text.

Reading People's Descriptions

If a person enters a description when logging in, then you will be able to view that description if you single-click on their name on the right-side of the window.

If the user did not enter a description, you will simply receive a message stating that they didn't enter a description.

Chatting Privately

If you'd like to chat privately with a user who is logged into the chat system, you can double-click on their name on the right side of the chat window. This will cause a private chat window to open up on your screen and on the other users screen.

Messages that you send and receive in this new private window are only visible to you and the person you're chatting privately with. No other users can view your messages and these messages are not logged or stored anywhere. They are private.

When you're done chatting privately, just close the private chat window window by clicking the "X" in the upper-right corner of the private chat window. The other user will be notified that you have ended the private chat session.

Chatting privately has not effect on your public chat session. You can chat publically and privately at the same time. You can even chat privately with multiple users at the same time.
